Thanks Osc - that is very helpful because I don't think I have a single straight wall in my flat either. And given it's only a 1 bed it's not very big so the walls tend to have furniture quite close to the wall...

hmm back to the idea of underfloor heating me thinks!

I've never heard anything but positives about underfloor heating :)

Osc, it's great that your architects are so switched on 8-) :D

Osc, we had underfloor heating in our last house and we loved it. In this house we have a completely different system, we have an air source heat pump. We are finding it pretty good.

Is an air source pump where hot air comes out of vents in the walls Loz? I had that in a house in York years ago. It did make for a very warm house and instant heat, but I found it a bit drying...........

Osc, get your architect to make sure he gets the zones as you want them.

We have underfloor heating but the ensuite is connected to the bedroom so if we want a warm bathroom :D we have to have a warm bedroom :(

Oh how interesting! That looks like a clever system Loz :) It mentioned it can be used to air con too - do you ever use yours for that? 8-)

No. It just heats up our radiators in the normal way and we have loads of hot water. We find it useful because we only have oil central heating round here and that was getting so expensive that we wanted to get away from it. This works for us. The unit outside is a little noisy, but it is hidden round the corner of the house, so we don't hear it.

Oh it sounds great! I had a house with oil fired CH once, out in the country. It had a septic tank too   The CH was expensive, comparatively, even then

Great info everyone, thank you :) Loz, did you have carpets in the house with underfloor heating? I always wonder if it works well under carpet or does it just heat the carpet  We wouldn't be able to have any kind of outside unit as we don't have any.....er.....outside :D Our heating will have to be carefully chosen as our main living area will be open plan with a high ceiling and an open stairs coming up to it.
