Internet Explorer IE11 Bug

Postby TheOstrich » 10 Dec 2013, 13:38

Microsoft is currently prompting peeps to upgrade to IE11, which I have just done.

It appears there is a compatibility problem which arises when accessing certain websites, including the Daily Telegraph from IE11. There's reports that it has also affected an on-line banking website, although I don't know which bank .....

You get a recurring popup saying "Scanstyles does not work with Opera /Web / Firefox" or similar variation.

This is off the Microsoft forum:

http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/ie/f ... 8970536cc1

There is a simple fix which you can do, which is mentioned in the later pages of the thread (basically adding the Telegraph's url to the Compatability View List).
Seems to work for me (so far, touch wood!)

Just saying in case anyone else has had it ......

Thanks for the heads up Ossie.

I am on W7 and upgraded IE10 to IE11 simply by allowing the upgrade to install. I have not had any problems at all.

I am wondering if people get problems if they upgrade from IE9 or do a fresh install.

Same as you, WM / Rodo, Win7 and originally IE10, and I also allowed the upgrade to install itself.

But I hit the pop-up message problem with the Daily Telegraph site within minutes. So far, I haven't had a problem with any other site (touch wood **!).

I managed to resolve the DT website problem as per the given fix.

** - it's amazing the number of times you have to touch wood when dealing with modern technology .....

Ton, if you are on XP the latest version of IE you can safely use is IE8. Try here: https://www.microsoft.com/en-gb/downloa ... tails.aspx

If you are on Vista, W7 or W8 IE11 is available here: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-gb/inte ... -languages Scroll down to English and then Select your Version. The site should detect which operating system you are using and only offer versions for that OS.

Now you have confused me Ton. :o :)

If your operating system is Windows 8 your Internet Explorer (IE) should already be IE11.
