Pass the washing soda .....

Postby TheOstrich » 07 Jan 2014, 19:54

Attempted brisket of beef onna bed of onions for tonight's dinner. Happily placed the joint 'n chopped onions in the oven and set it to 200.

Trouble was, I forgot to check how it was progressing until it was ready .... and the bed of onions were totally black and caramelised!

I think Mrs O had said put a little bit of water in the bottom of the roasting dish - she meant up to 1/4 pint, but I took "a little bit" as being 1/2 an eggcup full ! :D

Ah well. The meat was lovely ......

Anyone else had any culinary disasters this week?

Oh dear Os what a shame.
Brisket tends to need long slow cooking, probably more like 150-160, covered loosely with foil ;)
Do you have a slow cooker? - if not it would be well worth popping to Asda or Tesco and getting the cheapest (ours is Tesco a tenner at the most).
You can then leave things like that for 7-8 hours without risk of spoiling :)
