I look dreadful in leggings, but as I always wear them under something, like jeans, I'm okay.

We only have one mirror in the house and that is quite small

These are the ones that are like jeans though - leggings definitely go with longer tops :)

No chance on the skirt :( It's the waist.
Now, this skirt was from M&S, in, I reckon, about 1983-84. I bought it with Christmas money from the in-laws; it was from their 'premium' range and was £25 in the January sale
I was normally a size 12, but they didn't have one, only a 14, so I tried it on, as you did, wiggling it on under my skirt  :x
It was definitely quite small for a 14, maybe the reason it was in the sale.
The waist was a bit big, but I figured I could move the hook over; I never did as it pulled the zip out of line, and by the time I wore it the next Christmas I decided a bit of extra room was a good thing at this time of year :D :x

It fits perfectly, can even do the zip up - but the hook, only by breathing in and not comfortable! Just measured the waist, it's 27 1/2". What size are they making them now?

Di when I was about 20 I was 10st and in a size 14, now I weigh a lot more than that and can still wear some 14s. I think they have sized up (or is it down?) by at least two sizes since those days

I think a 14 is now a 30" waist at least, if not 32 :o I have heard it called vanity sizing :?

I found this quote online:-

'If you look back you can see a gradual change decade by decade, so someone who wears a modern Size 10 would be a Size 12 from the Eighties, a 14 in the Seventies and a 16 to 18 in vintage clothing from the Fifties. Retailers know it's a bonus if a woman finds an item she likes and it's a smaller size than she generally wears.'

Yes that will be the case - Jen is finding her 'vintage' stuff is a lot more fitted than more modern stuff, smaller waists on skirts and trousers (which suits her as she has a small waist) etc etc :)

Yes and I think the difference between waist and hip was far more pronounced too. A lot of slim girls have fairly big waists I think, quite straight up and down. Your Jen has a lovely figure though Gal, very hourglass :)

Certainly is, unless styles have changed and people are wearing separates low-rise these days, personally I prefer a waist to be on my waist, not round my hips! :? Hey ho...

Thanks Kaz yes she has :) xx

I've got a cold.

And I'm looking for sympathy! Mick is still not home - he set off from Southampton and then got a call out for Oxford and is now on his way back from there.

I have just taken a night nurse capsule and am about to go and zonk out in my bed.
