exercise bike....

Postby pollR78 » 14 Dec 2013, 09:13

does anyone here own an exercise bike?

looking for any tips on buying one.

I have seen a few on amazon but cheaper on ebay (from businesses), I have decided i want to buy a cheapish exercise bike which can fold up if needed. I have a real road bike but want something to build up my stamina and lose weight and then by summer time me and Amy can go big bike rides. (and I will be able to keep up with her lol)

I used to go to the gym 3 times a week for a long time until about May this year then my placements were full time and now working Monday - Friday. I have no time whatsoever to go to the gym as I work when Amy is at school, then she is with me, I am very much a 'single' parent - I know some people who are single parents whose parents/family have their kids a lot - mine done. Im on my own :(

So the plan is exercise bike, 30mins a night and I will shift the weight, and mentally I will feel better as I believe exercise does help with state of mind, for me anyway! (been thinking about it for about 2 months and now decided to do it)

I digress................so any tips or do you think as long as it is a bike and I can cycle does it really matter? I have seen one for £60/70 with free postage and looks ok.

First of all I think that's a good idea to get a static bike to build up your stamina. :)

Personally I don't think there's a need for an all singing-all dancing one..just one that has a decent seat (think of your toosh!) and maybe a mileometer/calorie counter as I'm sure if you seen what you were burning it might be a good incentive.

If you're maybe watching something on the tv for 30 minutes you can just pedal away, enjoy the programme and it won't even feel like exercise. :)

Once Spring/Summer has arrived I'm sure you'll feels loads better and invigorated and will be up for plenty bike rides outdoors with Amy.

I'm sure you'll feel loads better about yourself Poll once you're 'in the zone' and you see results.

(I hope this has come across with the good intentions that are meant!) xx

Yeah Ally that's the way I was looking at it, maybe the one at £69 will be fine (free postage) as long as you say, I can count calories or distance.

I do have a pair of shorts/leggings with a padded bum for on my bike, after my first bike ride my bum hurt so much I went to Lidl and found them, lol  (very sexy you know ;) )

thank you xx

Thanks Kaz, I just feel I have to do something, since May time when I stopped the gym I have got bigger and I am really not happy, I need to exercise!! :P

LOL Poll..I have on, right at this moment, my lycra cycling shorts which, whilst looking ok from the front, look like I have Mother Riley's bed sheets stuffed down the back!

NOT A GOOD LOOK!

But I refuse to put extra wear and tear on my botty!

lmao Ally  yeah they aren't very flattering BUT make it a lot more comfortable, my bum hurt for about 3 days after our first bike ride, ouchy!

I think I am about to purchase a nice wee exercise bike, happy Christmas to me! Can't see the prices going down much after Christmas, its £69 in total! Will speak with mum later and see if I can get it delivered to their house as I will be at work :)

Well you will never guess what happened today, I looked on Argos website and they had an exercise bike around half price and so planned to go there after visiting my aunt and uncle.............

Sat chatting to them and my uncle disappeared, Amy disappeared and then I was called out and there was Amy on an exercise bike that my auntie had bought but doesn't use so they gave me it!

I am so pleased, how kind of them!

It is in my bedroom and am going to start using it tomorrow for at least 30mins at a time :)

We had one years ago. It was used more for Mr Shell to hang his shirts and jumpers on, than for cycling.
