Loz tbh some of the Lidl wines are pretty good, but some not so :o

The Times wine writer said the range at Morrisons with labels that look like writing on a blackboard are all worth having, and they're I think £4.99 a bottle. We had some of the Pinot Noir and that was really, really nice.
I would suggest looking at the alcohol content too.
For whites I prefer to stick to 12-12.5%, and reds no more than 13% - especially if people aren't expecting something heftier, they can get unexpectedly tiddly. Higher alcohol content ones are more and more common and some are even 14-14.5 %!

And make sure the white is really well-chilled and put the opened bottles back in the fridge ;)

I've had those from Morrisons Di, they are really nice.

Be careful with Chardonnay, I have a couple of friends who are allergic to Chardonnay. One of them it causes migraine and the other one it causes heartburn, no idea why :?

Agree with Di. It depends on whether you want to get them drunk or not, do look at the label on the back to see the %vol. A Chablis and a Merlot, bot at 12.5 are nice for a party to keep everyone fairly sober.
