Inspite of areas, homes being destroyed by floods, loss of life, worldly goods and
Chattels, I ask where are the defences? I have seen none where the rivers have burst their banks
Like Tempsford. And worse are the areas where the tides have destroyed so many homes.
What protection have the councils actually carried out? None on the Wye,and I have not seen any elsewhere.
And when I see sandbags being placed in front of people's to protect them and their homes I wonder just who they think they are fooling.

Some of the defences in East Anglia worked Kate. The sea levels there were higher there than in 1953 when 300 people died; this time no one did.
200 properties were flooded in Whitby though (N Yorkshire). I guess when nature gets a head of steam up we are always going to struggle against its power.

Nature is far too powerful for us to control. We might be able to mitigate some of what it throws at us, but not everything. We cannot build defences against everything especially when we do stupid things like build on river flood plains.

River flood plains, it is happening now, and with the influx from Eastern Europe governments will build anywhere apart from in their own back yard. See the Romanians being accommodated at the cost of £125.00 a night per room over 104 of them. Food extra! Unbelievable. They Will stay in luxury until new houses are found (or built for them)
Bugger the English they will have to wait until all these immigrants are accommodated Uman Rites? What are they?

cant control the force of water
in hull the flood barrier went down and saves flooding of 90.000 homes in the city
but the tidal surge in the humber estery flooded homes in the humber bridge area
in boston the water went over the sea barrier
there are still areas in east yokshire flooded
due to the rivers mainly
there were no sandbags available from the council tho in some areas
which caused problems
it will be 6 months before some people can move back into there homes

No sandbags! As if councils were not aware of possible flooding. Many are still not able to return to their homes due to the last floods.
We can guarantee that councils will run out of salt as they have each year when the snow and ice hits.

I was surprised to see that in some areas the sandbags were plastic; that sort of defeats the object.
