What a flight!!!!

Postby Ally » 05 Dec 2013, 15:26

All was going fantastically until about 20 minutes from Birmingham.

Even though the turbulence was bad (it doesn‘t bother me...I was taking pics of a rainbow
but very, very suddenly we were thrown into a vortex of wind that even I thought bl**dy hell!!)

Just a moment before landing..the runway was just below us...the pilot aborted the landing!!

We went like a flippin rocket back up to the heavy rain and clouds.

We circled twice more before a really scarey thunderous landing!!

Some passengers were crying and I could see a girl being sick (sorry Shell) and one girl was breathing into an air bag.
I have never been as scared in my life!!!

The cabin crew were great and the pilot g  ot a round of applause when we touched down!

And this is from someone who enjoys flying!! :oops

I'd just been reading about the flights at Birmingham, apparently one plane tried to land twice and then had to divert to Gatwick!

Glad you did!
I never used to mind flying until a very turbulent flight back from New York once. I'm fine with turbulence as long as the drinks and food are still being served but the cabin crew were told to stop serving and had to get belted in themselves, and then the entertainment system went off as well. And just to top it, Joe threw up just as we landed at Heathrow  It was horrible, we were sitting there waiting for a gate and because the seat belt signs were still on none of the crew would assist and I was getting very mindful of the fact that people sitting nearby would be feeling very uncomfortable and could in fact have phobias so I got up and went to get help, thinking I might be tasered or something for daring to walk around before we got to the gate :o

Blimey Ally, I'm not at all a nervous flyer either but that would shake anyone! :o

The worst I ever had was also in a thunderstorm - which I'd been thoroughly enjoying :x - when we suddenly plunged about 10,000 feet   Nearly dropped me drink ;) :)
Glad you're ok, I do feel sorry for the ones who were really scared, it could take years for them to fly again :o

Glad you and the plane landed okay -. it really is scary when it's turbulant.

We landed in Majora, many years ago - through a thunderstorm. Nasty.

We had mild turbulence coming back into Gatwick last time, and I hated that - I would have been terrified today in your shoes Ally? Is Don with you this trip, sorry I forget if you mentioned it or not! I hope he was............(((((((((x))))))))))

I did actually think of you today, and Ria, flying in all this wind, hoping you were both ok. Thank goodness your pilot was so capable!

He‘s excellent on the hand holding/comforting front.

John was watching a movie last week, Flight. I caught the crash scene and thought never ever ever again... and the following day a friend commented on Facebook that she'd watched Flight and it put her off flying.
