Donations instead of cards

Postby miasmum » 01 Dec 2013, 12:40

I have seen a few people doing this and think would like to do it myself. I just wish I could think of a good local charity to donate to :?:

Have any of you done it? Did you do no cards, family cards, cards to people that live away and otherwise might wonder what has happened to you?

We do this for a couple of our relations Shell...my aunt Maureen and Judi.

Having lost my uncle Jim and Con to cancer these are the charities we donate to.

The charity then sends a 'candle card' to Maureen and Judi.

Each charity might do their own thing?

I've not been much help, have I? :|

I actually want to make a donation to a charity instead of buying any cards Ally. Just want a local charity, not one where none of my money will get where it is needed

That's a lovely idea Shell, what about a charity affiliated to special needs in some way, or a children's charity? xxxx

We have thought for a couple of years about pruning our card list drastically. We would rather give money to charity than to the Post Office.

We don't buy cards though Shell..we donate the money in memory of our lost loved ones and the cancer charity sends a little card to my aunt and Judi.

The money we donate is straight for the charity.

It's very important for us that they get the money and nothing is deducted.

We do two cancer ones Shell..Cancer Research UK (in memory of Con) and Macmillan Cancer Support (in memory of my uncle Jim.)

My mum does a 'light a bulb on the Christmas tree' for my uncle Jim too.

It's the tree that gets lit up every year by Motherwell Civic Hall and one of the bulbs is now named after my uncle.

Sorted, I am donating to the local Mencap. My friend is chairman and they want to raise £2000 to take their members to Blackpool for the weekend. I would never donate to National Mencap, too many fat cats, but the local one means I know exactly where it is going
