Afternoon all. Lip reading class this morning and it was all quite emotional as we were all sharing our experiences of hearing loss. Amazing how little it is understood even within our own families.

Thinking of Jen today and hope all goes well with E xxx

One of my best friends is deaf Loz..she went deaf as a young girl.

Toni is an excellent lip reader but the one thing she constantly comes across is people's impatience and perception of deaf people.

I thought of you when I went to the hospital with Bb last week. It was a big department with several different clinics running, lots of people around, and of course various nurses just come out and call a name. I suppose all you have to do is let them know, but it would be having to do that that would get to me

Good afternoon all, it's quite dull here and very cold.

I took Billy for a walk after I'd been to the gym. He's in a funny mood, I think because there's been a lot of arguments this week and the atmosphere's upset him.
I've argued with Tom over the fact that he never puts his shoes away and happily leaves his size 11s in the middle of the kitchen floor or in the doorway between the kitchen and utility room. I think he's talking to me now.
As for Joe, well he came home with glue all down the sleeve of his less than 3 month old blazer on Friday and that's been a devil to clean off, last Monday he came home from school without his jogging bottoms (it'd been PE) and they've not yet been returned and he's not found them in the lost and found box either, then last night I realised that his rugby top was also missing. Not that they play rugby, boys have to wear them whatever outdoor sport they're doing in Winter. He doesn't possess another pair of jogging bottoms, he never wears them at home, and the only warm tops he has are new and are most definitely not going into school to get covered in mud - or lost! So that annoyed me. Then I went to put a couple of clean school shirts away in his drawer and everything was looking a bit crumpled so I took out a shirt to re-fold that and on looking at the front a quarter of it was covered in red ink!! This is the third school shirt that he's ruined with ink out of the four new ones I bought him for going back in September. He reckons his pens keep 'popping'. Funny that because none of Tom's have leaked and I have one in my bag - they're Papermate biros and lovely to write with - and that's fine too.
He was supposed to be getting his X Box back tonight after a week's ban for being disrespectful but that's been extended for another week. I know for a fact that he's not talking to me.

Di, hearing at the hospital is quite difficult because of all that noise. Even in the audiology dept. I have to sit myself as close to where the nurse comes out to call the paients' name, because I would just miss my name being called.

I was once with a GP and the patients name would be flashed across a screen when it was time to go in.

This is completely off the wall ish and sorry Loz, nuffin to do with hearing or not - but quite agree with using a silly system for those who can't hear as well.

We had a friend, many years ago, called Florence O'Sullivan.

In the hospital waiting room, "Mrs O'Sullivan" kept on being called.

Our friend Flo, was actually a bloke

And so he just thought that there was some-one else there with the "same" name as him

He was from a very large Irish family and due to the war, they called at least one of the boys by a girls name, to save them being called up.

His mate was called Gladys

And no, that's not where I got the inspiration from

What an off-the-wall but clever idea Ton There were cases of whole families of sons being wiped out in the wars, so I am all for that

Well I've been for that long walk - into town to buy an anniversary card for my beloved (that's Mick in case anyone was wondering ) who will have been putting up with me for 9 years this Wednesday and a birthday card and gift card for my nephew, who will be 20 next week. It stayed dry which was the main thing
