Bb's Eye update

Postby Diflower » 21 Nov 2013, 12:39

He had his second follow-up this morning.

They're really pleased with how it's healed; there were 5 big tears in the retina and all have scarred over so all is well with that.
The registrar called in the guy who actually operated to check he was happy. Which he was, but Bb hadn't told me he's only about 15 :D
However, the operation has caused a cataract to grow. Bb was warned it often does, but we hadn't realised it would be so quick. It explains why his vision is still blurry round the edges - when they tested his sight through a pinhole it was much better.
So now he'll have to have that operated on, and is on the list. They said waiting time is around two months, so not too bad.
All in all good news; the op has worked, the retina has not detached, and once the cataract is gone his sight will be better than it was before :)

Good overall then, Di - it's great that he is on the list for the cataract op, they are extremely successful.

I was told that any ops on the eye usually causes cataracts to form as mine were caused from ops for Glaucoma

Ah, maybe that's why my dad had his so young! He was slightly younger than I am now, in his very late 40s! I had an eye op when I was three - a squint corrected - so I expect to get them at some point.........

Di, that all sounds very proming - you both must be very relieved and pleased. Hopefully it won't be too long before the cataract can be operated as well
