Not impressed!!!

Postby Kaz » 19 Nov 2013, 18:13

I ordered some football related bits and bobs for Harry, from Amazon, and they arrived today, delivered by a firm called Yodel. I walked across the hallway this morning, not long before I went out, and there was a missed delivery card. Now both Mick and I were in and besides the dogs go bananas when anyone rings the bell or knocks, so they obviously hadn't. I picked up the card thinking it would have redelivery etc on it but no they'd left my parcel "In a safe place - by your back door" They'd only opened my back gate, waltzed into my garden and left the parcel by the back door!

I am not happy about that one bit! For a start I don't like the idea of a stranger on my property uninvited, but also what if the dogs had been out, they might have gone for them or got out of the gate!    Neither dog is aggressive, they are very good with people that we introduce them to, or they meet with us, but they might well 'go for' someone they took as an intruder, they are terriers after all.................. :?

I rang the number on the card to ask them to put a note on that any future deliveries by them to me should either be delivered properly or left with a neighbour!

What a cheek :? :?

Some parcel companies are rubbish aren't they.

I dread having anything delivered by anyone other than Royal Mail (although I have to say My Hermes are pretty good). Because of the narrow part of our lane most delivery drivers can't get their van through the gap so just refuse point blank to deliver to us.

I tend to get most things delivered to my parents address but sometimes companies refuse to deliver to anywhere other than the address delivered to your card. No matter how much I explain that the delivery driver won't be able to deliver they still insist that he will.

Is it a high back gate Kaz? Could you put a yale lock on it so that no one can have access?

Yodel have a dreadful reputation Kaz.

A couple of years ago I ordered some items from Amazon, to be delivered by Yodel, and for over 3 weeks they were marked as out for delivery. Amazon gave up in the end and sent replacements, and a week later Yodel delivered the parcel.

My Mom heard a van door open and then close outside one night, a little while later she put the milk bottles out and there was a parcel from Amazon on the step. It was addressed to someone at number 96 - Mom and Dad live at number 353! Dad took it to the right address the next morning and the fella was really pleased as it was a tracked parcel, containing an expensive camera, which had apparently been delivered according to his Amazon account! It's a busy road too with people walking by so someone could've helped themselves to it with it just being left on the doorstep!

Oh Jo that's terrible! :x I must admit I'd never heard of Yodel before, but I am definitely unimpressed! :?

Debih it's a very high gate, by the side of the garage, 6ft tall I think. It has a handle you can twist but normally it is also bolted from the inside, quite near the top. They must have reached over and unbolted it, as neither Mick nor I can remember unbolting it

That is awful Kaz. Yodel do have a dreadful reputation, I don't know how they still get the contracts! Thankfully they don't seem to deliver round here.
Most of the deliveries for our little road are really good, parcels almost always left with a neighbour if someone's out.
We did have one last week though, left on the step when we were both in

We have a good delivery driver from Hermes. He leaves parcels with us for other houses in our street and for our DIL who lives about a mile away.
Our post man left a parcel yesterday for one of the houses five doors down the street. He knows we are reliable and trustworthy.
One courier driver now rings the bell after knocking on the door after mrs.e politely told him the bell does work. He said he knocks as some bells do not work.
We have had deliveries at 7.00 p.m at night by one courier firm.
Have seen bad reports about Yodel in the press and I think they are having money problems.

I have trouble with deliveries too, they just do not like waiting at all. So I leave the front door open with a notice on it "Please leave parcel inside here". There is by the way an inside grill and they are happy to dump and run.

The company I order most of my cat things from use Yodel as their courier company and I've never had a problem with them. But then they know they can leave whatever I've ordered by my front door as it's under cover and not in streetview as such.

Kaz, Yodel aside - from a security point of view you should put a lock on the side gate that it can't be opened. And - I hate saying this - but with the amount and ever increasing cases of dog napping (to get dogs for dog fighting bait) going on I definitely would lock that gate!
