I find butter a bit too heavy for most cakes, but prefer it for pastry. Half butter half lard. Also prefer butter for crumbles. God this is making me hungry but I'm in bed :?

Not much of a cook but I used to enjoy baking. Still do when I put my mind to it ;)

My first MIL taught me to bake, she was a bit of a whizz and even had a recipe published in a wartime Be-Ro pamphlet 8-) :D

There are plenty of people who still only bake with those Be-ro leaflets :D

Flipping heck, Be-Ro. Mum had the book, nice leather spine and a sort of fabric covered hardback embossed with the logo.

It was used to bake just about everything. There is a modern web version here: http://www.be-ro.co.uk/

Fantastic, thanks Frank :D :D

Lily was so proud of her recipe being published - it was a fatless eggless sponge, she won a competition they ran with it 8-) :D
