Ped, I live in a nice flat in a quiet, private, area and have great landlords, so I do not really want to move over a gas meter.

The meter is owned by National Grid, not SP - they are only the gas supplier. I have the freedom to choose whichever supplier I desire and my intention is to swap once I have received some feedback from SP. I have already been given some great advice from one of the numbers provided by Mrs Aggers.

Frank, There is a web site which will give the email address and other information of CEO of many companies. Just type CEO information in your web browser and the list should appear. I have used the information when I have had a problem and it worked for me.
Glad you have got gas again. I would ask for compensation for the loss of the supply, the cost of the phone calls, your time and the stress you were placed under. Also the cost of alternative heating and anything else you can think off. Don't accept the first offer.
I am now with Co-op Energy. Near the top of the list of the cheaper suppliers. UK call center with a free phone number. Calls answered quickly with no language problem, I send my meter readings every month. Have just increased my monthly direct debit and sent a cheque as I owed them money. I have had an interest free loa, as it were for nearly twelve months.
Let us know how you get on
