Awww Kaz he obviously knows it was really you who rescued him :)

My first dog - my Pepper - was very much my dog, but I'd had her from a little puppy :)
The second one, Sam, was a rescue. Having been without a dog for over a year, the time had come, and there was a lady I'd met at car boot sales who rescued dogs.
She just did it on her own, and had stalls at the boot sales to raise funds. She told me one day she had this dog that she'd heard about, owners who had no clue, he'd been left tied up outside all day every day...by the time she banged on their door they were grateful to her for taking him

Anyway, I went to her house - beautiful bungalow - she had 21 dogs in there, no smell whatsoever. Each had their own bed, except small ones who wanted to share; she bought skirts at the boot sales and sewed them with elastic to make covers, which she washed every day.
She brought Sam out into the front garden to meet me, then we went to meet all the other dogs in the back garden, and after an hour or so I went home to think about it. Then she came to check the house/garden; all was well so I went a couple of days later to collect Sam.

As I went through the front door, almost all the dogs came straight up to greet me/jump up/lick/ beg me to take them with me. Not Sam. He literally walked through and over all the other dogs and came and sat on my feet, looking up at me. He knew I'd come for him.
I put a lead on him, he charged out of the door and into the car and that was that :D
We went to classes, he won rosettes, he was utterly devoted to me from the second we clapped eyes on each other :)
(He went with ex, more for ex's benefit than his, but he was fine).

Minnie on the other hand is very definitely 'ours' :D

You know I don't mean it really.

I'm really pleased you found him - you're going to give him a fab life.

Ooh lovely doggy stories :D I was never a dog person, they always scared me. Then when we decided to have a Caspian it was love at first sight. He was such a super dog, not an ounce of vice in him. He followed me everywhere, even when he was so poorly at the end. Jasper is a different character, but just as adorable and once again, follows me everywhere :D It's so nice being adored!

Billy is my first dog, John had grown up with there always being a dog in the house though. When we moved here the boys started asking for a dog and were reaching fever pitch. The decision was left to me and I was just getting to the point where I was trying to find a way of letting them down gently. Then one Saturday afternoon John said it wouldn't hurt to take a drive to Birmingham Dog's Home...and there started weekends of us driving to various rescue centres. Seeing the dogs in the centres made up my mind for me.
One day, after looking at both of Birmingham Dog's Homes centres and Birmingham RSPCA, we were disheartened and were going to give up and go home but stopped for a late lunch at a Chinese buffet in Wolverhampton. We decided one last try for that day - Dog's Trust at Shrewsbury, or the one at Evesham. We'd been to Shrewsbury the weekend before that (and I think the one before that too) but were close to the M54 junction so decided to see if it was third time lucky.
We enquired about one dog, he'd just been reserved. We looked around again and asked about another, he's also just been reserved. The receptionist got out the form we'd filled out on our first visit...looked at it, we'd said that ideally we wanted a medium sized dog aged around 1-2 years old, and then said "Would you be interested in seeing some puppies?". John said he saw the sold signs flash up in my eyes.
We were taken to the puppy unit and 7 puppies with coats in various shades of brown and cream came tumbling into the room, along with one black and white one who promptly poo'ed on the carpet. We'd found our dog  Two had already been reserved so we had six to choose from. John was taken with a fluffy brown one but the little black and white one was climbing all over the boys and myself so John was outvoted :D

He's my shadow. Wherever I am then so is Billy. I can't tell you how many times I've almost fallen over him when I've walked out of the bathroom and he's lying up against the door waiting for me  He loves all of us, actually he loves everyone he meets and isn't afraid to show them, but I'm here with him most of the time, I feed him and I'm the one who walks him the most. I wouldn't be without him for a minute! :D
