what do your nieces / nephews call you

Postby meriad » 02 Oct 2013, 12:53

just by first name or with the word Aunty / Uncle in front?

I've always been Tante (German for aunty) Ria to my youngest niece and nephew (7 and 10 respectively) and I love it.

A few times now though this particular niece (A) has just called me by my first name. Now all the other nephews and nieces do as well (aged 15 - 29) and I really don't have any objections - I leave it up to the parents to decide how the children should refer to various relatives - but I just find it quite sad that A has started dropping the Tante bit :(

they are all just growing up too fast

Hmmm, interesting.

All my nieces and nephews are now in their late teens, or older, and they all call me Frank.

But it is funny, I do not remember when I stopped being an "uncle" I just sort of evolved.

My nephews are only ten years younger than me so they have always called my by my Christian name. Their children have just followed suit.

I have no idea! I haven't seen them for pushing 15 years, but I don't recall them using the term "Uncle".

I have 2 great-nephews and 2 great-nieces (pre-teens) - but I have never met them ....

There are three nephews on John's side of the family, they've always called me by my first name and not the shortened version either. John used to be called Uncle by them but now they're older they call him by his first name.
My Goddaughter calls me Aunty Jo

I don't have any nieces or nephews but my two call my brothers and sister Uncle and Aunty when they are talking about them, but when they are with them they tend to call them by their christian names but sometimes use Uncle or Aunty. I don't know why they chop and change, I must ask them. My siblings don't mind either way.

I have 2 nieces and 1 nephew, think they usually just say my name, although I do also get 'auntie p', Amy calls my sister and bro in law auntie and uncle :)

I have 2 aunties and uncles who I am in contact with and still call them auntie ..... followed by their name, doesn't feel right to say their name! Amy just calls them auntie/uncle too!
