Postby Ally » 24 Sep 2013, 07:43

I know I've ranted about this before..and probably will again after today...but I CANNOT BELIEVE this!!

An acquaintance of mine in the UK who just happens to be an English teacher!!! has posted on facebook this morning and in that said post she has TWICE!!! said should of instead of should have!!!!!!

It makes me SOOOOOOOO MAD!!!!!

Was this never picked up in any of her exams?!

Can she not see it's totally wrong?!

Are her pupils learning this too?!

Very very very few things wind me up..but this always does!!!

I'm off to badminton now to smash 7 bells of frustration on the poor shuttlecock!

I don't get it either Ally - my sister-in-law in SA does the same and it drives me round the bend. As you say it is just so totally wrong!

Flippin heck! What hope is there when correct spelling is not seen as important?!

Teach spelling as soon as a child can read and write and it should stay with them for life.

It's not new - when Miss Osc was in school and used to let me read her essays, I was surprised at how often spelling was left uncorrected, although grammar was always corrected. She used to tell me spelling did not matter, I of course begged to differ, and now she that she needs to write letters for her work, her spelling is very good.

A bit of poor spelling I can live with in ordinary life, but when professionals do it it drives me insane.

Even more annoying are the language manglers with their best practice of better understanding up to (upto?) fifteen new methodologies in an ongoing training environment situation.

It honestly gets myself proper wound up.

I picked up on that when looking at Tom's work at junior school and asked the teacher why and was told that grammar is more important so they let the spelling go... :?

But...ohhh I have to tell you this!!
In Joe's planner a couple of weeks ago a teacher had commented about him saying he couldn't read or write in full sentances. Ermmm yes he can! So I added a note saying "Joe is fully able to do that, and furthermore he knows how to correctly spell sentence" and I used a highlighter on their error
