Kindle know-how.

Postby Aggers » 20 Sep 2013, 21:07

I need some advice about my Kindle, and hope that perhaps someone here will be able to help.
The Kindle manual doesn't seem to refer to my problem, which is...

I have loaded my Kindle with three omnibus editions of classical authors, each of which contains dozens of books (stories). When I have
finished one story I seem to have no option but to read the next one, as I am unable to get back to the list of stories at the beginning to select another.
If I go back to the list of omnibus books loaded on to my Kindle, and select one, It just takes me to the page I last read - not to the list of stories.

If I use the search feature it only seems to function in respect of the actual story I am reading at the time, and won't move me to another story.

Any ideas?

I haven't downloaded omnibus books like that before so I'm not exactly sure what you mean Aggers but I assume you want to get back to the book index.

I've just gone to look on my kindle but its as flat as a pancake.

I've put it on to charge and will come back when I can open a book up!

Right, its charged up enough now to go on it.

See if this works Aggers. (I've got a kindle keyboard so am doing it from that - don't know if yours is different).

Go into your book. Press the menu button and then click on "Go to...." Then click on "table of contents..." and that should take you to the index.

Hope that works.

if it's formatted correctly that should work.

I have the 3g keyboard and that's the way I work. Menu->Goto->TOC (table of contents).

Although I have some books who have the TOC at the end and they don't point to the page.

For those kind of books I go to Menu->Go to and then select page and go to a page number. This, of course, presupposes you know the page number.

The reason it's like this is that all the books are in one file (if you understand?). You open one file from the author menu then you have to navigate the "file", to get to the book you want. It's just like any other omnibus book, but the person who created it has to do the TOC work correctly or it doesn't help...

Thanks, Debih and Suff'

If tried what you suggest and at last managed to get what I wanted.

I'm so pleased - 'cause it was driving me mad. :kick:

I think I still prefer the feel and convenience of real books, but I'm amazed at just how many "books" I now have on my Kindle.
I would need to buy another ceiling-high bookcase if they were all bound volumes.

Thanks again.
