As I said in the morning thread, we were going to Flightfest today - I've had it on the calendar for ages, ever since I first saw it referred to in the paper. I wasn't feeling 100% this morning, it was dull and windy outside with showers although it was supposed to improve, and it would not have taken much for me to decide to stay at home. But then I thought oh stuff it, we'll go for a while anyway. Then a friend phoned and asked if we were heading in and maybe we might meet up, so that was fine. On the way in on the train, it poured rain but had stopped by the time we got into town and we had mostly sunshine with only a odd few drops after that. So we walked down the quays and the atmosphere was jumping, loads of people, live music and the sun was coming out. So we texted the friend J who had phoned, and he was with us in about five minutes, then our friends N and A texted, they came and joined us with their daughter and they had met another friend on the way.
Then the fly past started and for the next three hours all sorts of planes flew up the Liffey and all of them did several passes so it was great for getting photos. There were all sorts, various passenger planes, small planes, some fighter planes including two Hawk Hunters which were super, some great helicopters, a plane that can fly as low as 100 feet to spray stuff on water when there has been an oil spill, smaller old planes, and to finish off the day, the British Airways A380 which is the world's largest passenger plane and due to go into service shortly. It's a monster Halfway through the day we all got the munchies at the same time and got some fairly decent fast food (goodness only knows what it will do to my stomach - but I was hungry, it was tasty and there's always Maalox ). At the end we all went our separate ways, then Mr. Osc and myself bumped into my sister so we walked back to her house which took about half an hour and she drove us home. I was soooooo glad that I decided to go and not just be miserable at home, really enjoyed the day. Will get photos on to FB later, and I have a little video of the A380 as well.
