Oh decisions, decisions

Postby miasmum » 20 Aug 2013, 18:45

Been looking at a short break, for 3 nights in October. I said it was entirely Mr Shell's decision, then steered him towards Dunster, in Somerset. But I carried on looking and tonight found a nice apartment in Alnwick in Northumberland and I know he would like to go to Northumberland, but..........every inch of me would prefer to head South West as opposed to North East.

Help, someone tell me how lovely Northumberland is

and this is the Dunster one

The Northumberland one is £70 cheaper which would pay for a nice meal out

Sorry Shell, I can't help as I am biased.

I would go North, but that's me. I love our open spaces and the landscape and the people. We are friendly, everyone is welcome, no 'airs and graces' but that's how we are.

But if the S. West is your thing, and I know it is, then who am I to argue. Exmoor and its locality is beautiful, there's no arguing about that.

Personal choice.

If they were all like you WM, I would be there like a shot

Well he has just surprised me and said he would prefer to go to Dunster in October and then think about Northumberland in the Spring. Mind you if he doesn't get his holiday sorted they will probably both be booked.

Northumberland is absolutely wonderful :D Of course I am biassed but seriously the scenery is breathtaking :) 8-) We stay at Alnmouth which is about 4 miles from Alnwick, which in itself is a gorgeous little market town.

I can't comment on Somerset as never been :)

We've booked Dunster. Not that property another one, one that is no where near as pretty, but half the price. After all this is not a holiday, it is just a short break.

Northumberland is on the to do list when the weather is kinder

Thank you x

Haven't been to Dunster since I was a child but I remember it being a really lovely place, Exmoor is such a beautiful part of the country - we'll be driving just south of the area on Saturday. We used to carry on down the M5 to Exeter and then travel up to Bude but one year got off just south of Taunton and went along the top and it's such a pretty route. The names signposted bring back memories of lovely holidays with extended family.

Shell, do the google maps trick. ;)

Alnwick really is a lovely place and a spring break there would be something to remember.

Gal and I would not lie to you, would we Gal?

Alnwick is fabulous and the coast in Northumberland is breathtaking.

I did do that WM. The first cottage I looked at was in Amble by the Sea which sounded magical, but when I went for a walk, it was very dark. I do find the stone they use very depressing. Alnwick though seemed much brighter and I do really like that properly so we will consider it in the Spring. It is also a lot further.

However, my walk around Dunster was lovely
