oh I have a rant, can I join in....??

On Saturday we were going up to my friends, now I tend to stick to the speed limit, so I pulled out the opening where we live onto the 'main road' - plenty space before the bus got nearer - anyway the bus was clearly doing over 30mph and within a minute was up my backside......I tapped my break and continued to drive at the speed limit. He continued to drive up my bum.

I was not happy, went another way and got to my friends.........

I wasn't going to complain but thought no, that road is a 30 limit for a reason, I am sick of people speeding on it so I emailed the company today with the bus number and time/date and explained. Also explaining that I need my car for my job and not willing to speed because their bus driver was in a hurry and trying to intimidate me.

I have had a response and an apology, stating the driver will be interviewed - good!

That seriously bugs me, people speeding all the time, if they just took a minute to think of the consequences they wouldnt - I saw a wee girl being hit when I was about 9-10, the car was doing just over 30, that girl died and I will never forget it.

Well here is my rant of the day. On Facebook this morning, one of my 'friends' wrote, 'thank you Belinda for piercing Angelina's ears, I hope the bruises from the kicks she gave you heal quickly"

Angelina is 4 years old, but worse than that she has the same condition as my Luke. She has had neurosurgery for her epilepsy, is currently having regular laser treatment for her birthmark, has learning disabilities and challenging behaviour" Why would you pin her down and get her ears pierced? What a needless. cruel thing to do, just so she looks pretty for you, not her, she couldn't care less, you

I did put 'well done Angelina, I'd kick someone who was putting holes in my ears when I didn't understand too"

I just couldn't help it

good for you MM!

Amy had her ears pierced around March last year , she was nearly 7, I originally said 10 but she kept going on about it, I eventually gave in and let her have it done but it was her choice and she new what to expect as she had watched my friends wee one (aged 3) get them done!

Yep, good for you Shell. Poor little girl :(

Poll, I'll join you in a rant about speeding buses. We live on a hill in a quiet village, but still the buses come bombing down the road when the limit is 30mph. It makes me so angry. We have tried all sorts to get the council to do something, but so far nothing.

Its a serious problem everywhere isn't it and it drives me crazy!

The 'town service' bus goes up my mums street which is a 20mph, id say it does more like 35mph and the main road off where I am, everyone speeds, I once pulled out with plenty space and a car came speeding up my bum, flashing his lights and making hand gestures at me - I pressed my brake and stuck to 30, absolute idiot.

Makes me mad!!

lol Ally, yep you are right! I have driven in Spain once years ago and hated it! I don't mind Greece as much, have driven on a lot of Greek Islands and found it ok, and when I worked in Crete I was quite often given the pool car to get to a hotel to meet my coach ;)

I read the other day that two-thirds of drivers in the UK regularly drive well over the speed limit. I can well believe it.

So much for our useless police.

We pay them to enforce the law - all laws - but obviously they don't think road speeding important. Well, I do.

It's a pity that all who are killed by speeding cars aren't members of policemen's families, then perhaps they might start doing their job properly.

Putting up notices warning of speed cameras, and flashing signs that are on and off all day, all at our expense, is not the way to enforce the law.

Crushing offenders' cars might be much more effective - or bring back the Birch.

We are fast becoming a nation of criminals.

That's my rant for today.

On this one Aggers, I will rant the other way.

Speed is relevant in every accident.... without speed there would be no accidents, except for stationary ones - falling loads etc.. What do we do, take all vehicles and pedestrians off the roads?

The campaign "Speed Kills" is the most one-sided and invidious ones ever run. It implies that if I drive at 33 mph - well within speedometer error, but beyond the limit - I will kill someone, but if I drive at 29.5 mph they will survive. Someone might survive if they are at the very far end of the safe stopping distance, as advised by the Highway code, but if they step out only yards away or somewhere in between, before you have time to brake, physics says that they are gone, archive, DEAD - at 33 mph or 29.5 mph

The same is true with motorway or dual carriageway speeds. Hit something at those speeds and you will be lucky to survive. Doing ten mph more will make little difference.

Getting drivers and pedestrians aware of how dangerous roads can be, and altering their attitudes to them, will save many more lives than simply reducing speeds - IMHO.
