Waves to everyone!!

Postby Kaz » 09 Aug 2013, 17:58

Evening everyone :D Just a quick visit while my visitors are out for a walk :)

We've had a nice couple of days so far - Gloucester Docks yesterday and then Bourton on the Water today :) Z is lovely - really tiny though, slim like a young girl - and so are her hubby and son.........The language issue is interesting, Z has very good idiomatic English, B a little but her husband R has almost none at all :? :D    Last night after a few beers and wines somehow we all understood each other a lot better ;)

They are staying until Sunday, hope to be able to pop in again before then 8-)

I lived in Germany for about seven years and could, at the time I left, say that I was at intermediate level.

When work sent me back some 25 years later - Munich and Frankfurt - I would resort to kinderspracher. After a few days though, and with the help of a few beers, I could, still can, hold a good conversation.

Kaz, pour a few down R und lassen Sie ihn los! It's amazing how many nouns and verbs we have in common. :D :D :D

Glad you're all enjoying it Kaz :)
I did German just to O level but managed to have a German boyfriend for a short while. German's such a nice language, very straightforward :)

A lot of years later a lovely German lady and I got stuck in a Portuguese toilet  :D We were in there about 15 minutes or so, quite a long time; we were rescued because people heard us laughing so loudly
She knew no English whatsoever but with my wobbly German and a little French between us we got along famously :D

Well some of my schoolgirl German came back to me so Ich kann ein bisschen Deutsch sprecken :? Z and her husband were impressed I made the effort to try anyway

We've had a lovely few day on the whole but unfortunately it hasn't ended on such a good note. Z's son B was taken ill on the way over to my sister's house for lunch today. He has a chronic condition he was born with, and had many operations on his intestines as a baby, and at 23 still occasionally has problems now, althought usuaully very well controlled by meds and a healthy lifestyle. We got him to J's as we were almost there, and he's now being assessed overnight in the hospital over there :( We came back as there was nothing we could do - Z and her hubby are staying overnight with my sister J and then hopefully resuming their holiday after B is discharged....The next stage of their holiday after lunch at J's was always going to be with rellies over that side of the country, and their flights are from Heathrow so there was no point waitng to bring them back here :?

Oh and then on the way home we were almost in a bad accident - a car came though a red light and almost hit us but instread hit the car behind and spun it right round  If it wasn't for Mick's quick reactions in avoiding him it would have been us :(

Apart from today though we've had a lovely time, I just hope B will be well enough tomorrow either to carry on with their holiday or to at least fly home......................

Oh Kaz what an awful shame! Really, really hope all is well with B for then to continue with their plans, or at the very least that he's ok very soon.

And what a horrid shock, it's always the other eejits on the road you have to worry about

Thanks for the hugs Di, it has been a bit of a day!!! Poor B though, being ill is bad enough without being in a foreign country. I can't help thinking they would be better off getting him home really :?
