Anyone familiar with Southern Ireland?

Many years when I was working I went to Galway. Didn't have much time for sightseeing. But there was some lovely scenery and I had good weather. Also had a couple of holidays in Ireland near the Dingle which is much further south.
You will enjoy it especially the Guiness.

I live in Northern Ireland, and have had many holidays in Southern Ireland, although we have always tended to be further west.

On the map you can see Spiddel that region leads onto the Connemara, which is a rugged part of Ireland.

spiddal itself is a seaside town, with all the usual attractions.

Weather wise it can be very hit and miss, like most of Ireland

I think it would be a quiet little village, but if you dont mind a bit of driving you have lots within an hours drive.

Shell, if you look at your link and go to Photos page 3 the top left picture is titled: Harbour wall at the end of our street.

Now go to google maps and type in Glebe Road, Kinvarra, Ireland and zoom in on the result. You are right there! Now you can have a "drive" around and see the place fist hand. The lodge is at the other end of the street.

Hmmm maybe that wasn't such a good idea, its not the prettiest of places is it? All you can see along the high street is pub after pub. Went the other way down to the water, and it doesn't do a lot for me have to say.

I live in NI too and I gave up on Southern Ireland holidays years ago because we always got rained off (sorry Osc - I do love Dublin where there's plenty to do in the rain ). In most Irish towns every other building on the high street and on every corner is a pub.

I hasten to add that it's the same up here, which is why I go to sunny climes for my holibobs.

I've abandoned the idea. Southern Ireland feels far to difficult. You either need to drive for over 100 miles, get a ferry at some ungodly hour (3am ) that takes 7.5 hours then drive for another 150 odd miles and then do it all in reverse or go through all the hassle of flying (which is cheaper than the ferry admittedly) but add on hiring a car and the all the hassle of getting to the airport and I think no, there must be easier holidays.
