If she can afford to go to Folk Festivals she can afford to replace the bed she broke - end of! Give her hell about it Debih, softly softly obviously hasn't worked

I agree too - I am so angry and also cross at myself for forgetting about it.

I sent the message in case I don't see her as I don't know when she gets back from the folk festival and if she is going on somewhere else before coming home. I also know that she is bound to look on facebook whilst she is there so will see my message.

We go next Saturday and I want it sorting by then - she can order it and pay for next day delivery.

I will be hunting her down next week.

Debih why not write a note and post it through her door? No chance of her not seeing that ;)

You have touched on a problem that we seem to get too often in our Retirement Lodge.

We are always getting asked for advice by other residents here, as the word has got around
that we are knowledgeable and willing to help where possible. We normally don't mind this,
but we have had one or two cases where we have loaned certain items and the borrower has
not returned the item and we have found it necessary to ask for it back several times.
We know that memory loss may be a factor in some cases, but it does seem a pity that our
good intentions are being sabotaged in this way, as we are fast reaching the conclusion that
we should, perhaps be less willing to help.

I have learned that the only way, if you are still willing to lend things, is to say very clearly beforehand, yes you're welcome, but please understand I need this back by x.
Either that or, yes but if it's ok with you I'll call on x-day to collect it.
Both methods save a lot of worrying ;)

I don't think I will be loaning anything out again for a long time Di. It has made me so cross.

She must have seen my message as I have seen posts from her on FB. She has responded but I suppose she is at a folk festival - although if she has time to sit and "like" peoples pages and comments she has time to respond to me. I suppose my name is mud with her and the friend that she has gone with at the moment.

I will leave it now until I know the folk festival is over and then ring her.

I never lend things. But then I never borrow things either. I never do favours either. Because I never ask for any either.

She really is taking the p Debbie
I used to have a friend who was always borrowing from us - items and money - and with the money she was always promising to pay me back at the end of the month so we'd meet in town when she got paid and she'd spend a small fortune in the Bullring on clothes, books and silly things like X Box games for her husband, spend a load in Lush and then afterwards, usually in Starbucks with a large latte and a big slice of cake in front of her, she'd always always ask if she could the pay me back the following month as she had no money left!! In the end, after I gave her an ultimatum date and she'd paid back her final debt, I just cut off contact with her.
It's always us who people seem to come to for favours or to borrow things, yet we get by on our own if we need anything. We've been stung once too many times though and are more reluctant to help out now.
