Joe was going to be George but a couple of months before he was born, our neighbour's 3 year old nephew called George died in his sleep. He was at his aunt's house everyday as she looked after him while his Mom was at work and thinking that the time would come when we'd be in the garden shouting "George" over and over again seemed a little insensitive.
Tom's middle name is Alexander, after Sir Alex Ferguson (but John doesn't know that was my reasoning ).
