How appalling to have to go through that for a passport from your country of birth! I could understand for instance if I had been in the country the required number if years and I was applying, I would expect such a passport, but for generational birth citizens to go through that, that is truly degrading.

Nice to have the nice shopping trip afterwards though.

to an interview for a passport! Our passport is €89 for 10 years, so quite a bargain compared to yours.

Our sat nav (a Garmin) is voiced by the very genteel Serena, our last one was Sally but I always found her a bit strident and she was inclined to get snotty if you didn't go the way she said - plus she had a predeliction for bringing you up country roads with grass growing down the middle, even if the main road that you should be on ran parallel. When we got this one, it was set to a man who we called Dave, now Dave was just too hearty for us and Serena suits us very well. On Mr. Osc's iphone we have Penny, who's a bit posh, but rather brisk. (An Irish sat nav called Sean should really say "If I were you, I wouldn't start from here at all" and use pubs as points of direction )

Lol Osc my lovely best mate who's no longer with us spent a lot of time in Ireland and would often tell me that's exactly what he was told, with an intake of breath 'ahhh, see, you really don't want to be starting from here. Now if you started from (anyplace), then you could get there with no trouble at all...'

It was blue when we were very lost Kate! I was more upset when Grandson told me they asked about the circumstances and details of his Dad's death. It was Grandson who found him unconscious on the kitchen floor when he was fourteen and he tried to restart his heart and gave him mouth-to-mouth and that was five years ago. He was very brave then and fortunately we all talk about it openly together (he was offered counselling but he said he'd rather not) but what this terrible event has to do with him getting his first passport? So I was very proud of him having to relive that again.

Daughter tells me the dreaded TomTom was Basil Fawlty so that could have been even worse

Fugi that is very shocking, that they caused him to relive such a traumatic event. Shame on them - and it puts my own experience firmly into perspective ((((((((((((((x))))))))))))))

I thought you only needed a birth certificate, photo and certification by someone professional. I have just done one for naturalisation and passport for an Irish lady.
