Hairy Dieters curry

Postby Diflower » 23 May 2013, 08:24

Yesterday cooked my first recipe from the Hairy Dieters book, and my goodness it was yummy :D
In case you missed the post, I kept hearing good things about the book (not from dieters either!) and spotted it in Tesco for £7 so bought it.
This is their adapted chicken jalfrezi, which luckily is online so you can have the link:
http://www.womanmagazine.co.uk/food/hai ... zi-recipe/

I cooked the recipe exactly as it is, except we only had red peppers, and bothered to count the number of chicken pieces, so I could freeze half. I cooked it up to adding the stir-fried veg, then took half out, and only did half of the stir-fry veg as they'll be better added fresh when we have the other half ;)
Our was not quite a diet version as we had a couple of samosa and pakoras lurking in the freezer, but I did weigh amount of brown rice I'd usually cook and it was exactly what they suggest anyway :)
There are lots of other recipes I'm looking forward to trying too :)

Di, if their version of sweet and sour is in the book you have to try it. It was in one of the earlier shows and I cannot find the link now, but it must be in the book of the series.

Yes it is WM, I shall probably try it next time we have the boys or just youngest; they both love sweet and sour so I usually have a tin of pineapple at the ready :)
The book has all the recipes from the series, plus more.

Oh dear, it sounds like another cookery book I must buy  :D
I watched the series and thought some of the recipes looked tasty, so it's good to read that both you WM are giving it a thumbs up :D

Loz what I liked was the recipe was really clear and easy to follow, plus it worked!
Which is what you expect from a recipe book, but all too often as I read them I'm already making adjustments. I now feel I can happily trust the recipes, so can relax and just do as they say :)

Ally check out your chillies, it sounds like a lot but the ones I bought weren't as hot as the last ones. I left the seeds in 2 of the chopped ones and took them out from the other two, and it was fine - but we'd have enjoyed it a bit hotter too ;)
Stir-frying the veg and adding last really makes a lovely difference :)

If anyone googles Hairy Dieters there are some of their recipes from their own site and from the BBC. The chicken Korma is worth a pop... but unfortunately I cannot find the lamb Madras/Vindaloo. :(
