The sums and the moon!

Postby Ally » 21 May 2013, 13:07

In class this morning the lesson incorporated lots of English phrases about health. :D

I was explaining that 10,000 steps a day was recommended for adults to keep healthy and mobile. :D

One young lad was amazed and wondered if 10,000 steps would get him near the moon!

We then, thanks to Google, looked up the distance in steps.

Based on the information on my pedometer last night..this is what we had a great laugh working out.

It is 238857000 steps to the moon.

I walked/ran 17733 steps.

Dividing it all into weeks and months...and providing I set off after the VV meet...I should get there in 2053 in time for my 92nd birthday.

The kids all thought this was hilarious.

They then decided the lesson had been an arithlish lesson.

Who says arithmetic can't be fun?

By the way....

There are 384,400 kilometres to the moon - that's 384,400,000 metres.

If each step was 90 cm - about a yard - you would do 427,111,112 of them.

10,000 steps a day for a year is 3,650,000

It would therefore take you 117 years to walk to the moon. :P :P :P ;)
