We decided to give ourselves a few months before thinking about getting another dog after losing Bill, much to Joe’s disgust. He’s been desperate for a new one, and I have too because the house just doesn’t feel right without a dog, but we said that we’d wait until after our holiday.
Ideally we wanted a male puppy under six months old, and said we’d start looking once we got back. I’ve been following a lot of UK rescues and young puppies aren’t that common, so I started following some in Romania. A couple of weeks ago a whole litter appeared, born on Dec 1st, and I sent Joe a photo of one of them saying how cute he was, there weren’t any details, just that they’d be ready for adoption soon.
This week they’ve been made available, and I made a tentative enquiry. Long story short, I spent Tuesday morning filling out and sending back a very long application form, Tuesday afternoon chatting online to the Romanian charity’s UK coordinater, I had to video the garden and all through the house for a virtual home check and then last night she needed to speak to the three of us about the whole procedure via Facetime.
The contract has been signed, the deposit paid and George, as we’re going to call him, will hopefully travel on March 28th.
He was born in a house so he’s not the typical Romanian stray, both parents are the family pets so we’ve seen photos of those with the puppies. He’s a Labrador cross, the Dad looks like a Lab and the mother looks GSDish crossed with something else. The family have handed the puppies over to the rescue.
