These semi-rigid inflatable boats are a bit of a mystery. They are not lifeboats of the type found on ships yet they are capable of carrying 40 - 50 - 60 people or more. Why?

There can be very few legitimate uses for them yet they are being built in their hundreds and then sold and transported to the beaches. This is no back street garage operation, it is hi-tech and uses some complicated logistics to pull off.

Who is making them, where, and why have they not been shut down? It is time for the authorities in many countries to start working together and put a stop to them being made. No boats = no boat people and no profits for the people traffickers.

Apparently these inflatable boats are stored near Dover. A drone went over them and filmed them and there were hundreds of them. Eventually we will have to get rid of them but not sure how they will be disposed of. Does Ed Milliband know? We are supposed to be saving the planet.

Yes, Meds, but that is after they have made the crossing. They were made, sold and transported somewhere in Europe. Some say Denmark, others say Germany or Belgium, possibly even France or Italy.

These boats must be being made by legitimate boat builders so there must be some way of licensing their sale and use. It should not be the case that anyone can walk in and order three 12 metre semi-rigids with outboard motors without giving concrete proof of what they will be used for in order to get a licence for them to be built.

I was being a bit sarky Frank. Not only do illegal immigrants arrive on our shores and we don't seem to be able to deport them, but we are left with their means of transport to deal with as well. I am sorry if this sounds harsh but people working and paying taxes are starting to ask how much of their taxes is going on coping with the infllux of people illegally entering this country.

When the ports of Calais, Dunkirk and Zeebrugge had their security and hi-tech detections systems upgraded (weighbridges, scanners and CO2 monitors) it became almost impossible for the migrants to board lorries / vans undetected.

The next trick was to get a pre-pay credit card and load it up with enough cash to buy a leisure inflatable with outboard motor suitable for two to four people but load it up with ten to a dozen, These craft are available at any marina or boatyard, buy one, launch it, and off you go. Those are the types of boat stored in Dover, many from 2019 - 2021. They apprently cost over £500k in storage fees.

Then came the traffickers and the scale went up. We now see pictures of boats in the channel with over 50 people on board, I think one had 95 of them in it! These are the boats I am talking about.

I thought a BBC investigation had ascertained that these inflatables were being manufactured in Turkey and then transported to storage facilities (large warehouses) around Essen in Germany before being taken to the Channel coast for use.

People-smuggling gang operation from start to finish. I am not sure that the Germans are being overly co-operative, but I may be wrong. The Beeb had to tread carefully whilst filming undercover to avoid breaching German law.
I doubt the Turks will be cooperative either.

There are so many versions, Ossie, that it is hard to tell fact from fiction.

However, the boats are being made and transported and that is quite a feat in itself. It is not a Transit van job, it takes quite a large lorry - flatbed and crane. Then the boat has to be inflated, probably on the launch site beach, so that's a high volume and high pressure compressor running for goodness knows how long.

What is true is that there are many opportunities to intercept and stop these boats well before they are loaded up and launched, and in the process take out many of these traffickers. It just seems that there is no willingness to do so.
