I workrd full time from leaving school at 18 until I retired at 64.

I have managed to buy my own house and saved some money. The only "benefit" I get is the normal State Pension.

Now Kier thinks I am not "working" class". He has never got his hands dirty.

And there are many MP's renting out property.

Ah the vagaries of the English language. "Working people" means different things to different readers, doesn't it? For some it is those in manual work - making things, repairing things, whilst for others it is anyone who works day in and day out on a regular basis no matter what they do.

Then there is the definition of what "work" actually is - another minefield.

It was a clumsy phrase to use, but that's politicians for you.

Blunkett is probably right when he says that we need a new phraseology. The old Working class / Middle class / Upper class descriptions are well past their sell-by date.

I think that I know what Starmer was getting at, but I am not sure.
