Samsung goes all Microsoft.

For all those techno questions

Samsung goes all Microsoft.

This is to do with the updates where MSoft ditches all your personal preferences in favour what the script kiddies deem you shall have.

Now Samsung is at it. Its latest software update (NOT an Android one) caused my brain to explode!

I opened the phone to make a call and there was an avalanche of notifications for all sorts of things. Now, I do not like apps, especially the pre-installed ones, so I disable as many of them as I can. I also switch off notifications. All these things do is drain my battery for no advantage to me.

The latest Samsung update re-enabled just about everything and I spent ages undoing the damage.

My solution has been to turn off Samsung's software updates and only allow Android security patches.

What gives these companies the right to mess with MY equipment?

Yep I know. I got an update to my Honor phone and a bunch of stuff had changed. They decide what your "defaults" are and they push them.

What is more annoying for me is when it decides to do a system update overnight. I use my phone as an alarm and I have multiple alarms set with different ringtones. So when my phone starts going booom boom boom in the morning I need to remember that it is likely a system update. Because I have a pin on my sim and I can't read the screen in the dark without my glasses and the first thing it asks for is the SIM pin. If I'm too dopy I'm left with the possibility I need to go find the PUK to unlock my sim before I can use the phone.

I get less of this using Chinese phones and you get even less if you buy really cheap chinese phones because they stop sending you system updates after a year. But then your phone is on a path to obsolescence as apps start to refuse to install on it.

I've just learned to change as little as I need and simply ignore all the rest of the crap. That way I have less to go rectify when the update virus sweeps across my phone screwing it up. Oh and I buy phones with REALLY large batteries... :P :P
