No need to be sorry Saundra. Even the BBC and Sky were calling out cyber attacks until they were put right later this morning.

Lazy journalism on their part, but what's new?

Kaz, back in the day Microsoft used to be famous for their lack of testing.
Their line of thought was that they had so many customers that heavy use would soon find any faults in their new software release!
Another quick upgrade and job done.

They've come unstuck this time though.

I am also a critic of Microsoft, boy am I, but it wasn't a Microsoft update causing the problems, it was one from a company called Crowdstrike. However, it did mainly impact Microsoft computer end users.

Yes, it caused the infamous "blue screen of death" but that was an issue with another company's software. At the beginning it was lazy journalism pointing the finger at Microsoft and the 5h1t stuck.

It was pretty poor journalism. I missed it till later today as I was struggling around the house this morning.

Work doesn't use them so no issue there for me. The main issue is that Cloudstrike do both users computers and servers. The servers were a real problem because they brought down large swathes of infrastructure and because "all in" organisations with cybersecurity endpoint protection tend to use the same system for everything the update took down all the windows computers.

I've seen a tally of 1bn and counting.

Pretty big OOPS. That DevOps team is going to be answering very difficult questions about testing for a Long, LONG, LOOOOONG time.
