I had not much to do so have been reading many, many comments on the BBC.

The consensus seems to be to leave the back four alone. then go (L to R) Gordon, Bellingham, Rice, Foden (when he returns) and Palmer (in a five or a three - two) with Watkins or Toney up front.

The other popular system is to drop Trippier and go to a back three, same five as above, and have two up front. Pick the two from Watkins, Toney or Kane.

Nearly everyone says to use the subs earlier on - even at half-time.

There is a lot of support for Kane being given the hook in the starting 11 and only used as a sub.

Southgate is a long way from being the best England manager ever, but he's got to be the luckiest.

An overhead kick, and we all know how they can go... a goal or a danger to space satellites. 50:50. "Brilliant" if it goes in, but "oh well, never mind" if it doesn't. And to do it in the last minute of a stoppage time period that seemed excessive it has to be lucky.

Luck certainly seems to be playing a big part in England's continued participation in the 2024 Euros.

Well that was dire.

Trippier is not a wing back and never will be, Mainwho? Three good runs in his time on the pitch, but not much else. Kane a water buffalo paddling in chilled molasses. If he came any further back he could be in goal.

No subs till nearly 80 minutes, yet everyone could see they were needed long before that, even the ultra biased commentators.

"Back pass" Shaw on for five mins? Why? To justify his inclusion in the squad?

What is really annoying is the pundits and journalists bigging them up as though they are world beaters. Lineker, Ferdinand, Lampard, Richards, McNulty et al trying to tell us how good they are - no, they are not.

Kane should be dropped but he won't be,too slow,might as well be converted to a centre back seems to spend a lot of time defending.
Toney or Watkins up front to inject some pace .

We are defying the law of gravity here. We have been awful against some very ordinary sides, but we are in the semis!

Kane looks either injured or his legs have gone. Watkins or Toney deserve a start.

We've played five games and scored five goals.
Of the four quarter finals three went to extra time at 1-1,0-0 and 1-1. Of those three games two went to penalties.
This competition has been a poor advert for the game, it needs a match that lights up the tournament.

When football first started it was a goalkeeper, two full backs, three in midfield and five up front, but the system was fluid. The aim of the game was to win.

That has largely been reversed in the modern tournament game where the aim is not to lose. It is now crap walking football, and it is not only England playing that way.

No it isn't. France are very strong defensively but haven't clicked going forward.

The modern game is a bit like basketball, in that the whole team sometimes drops back to defend their goal, packing the centre of the pitch. The attackers have to pass across the front of the defence or try and get round the side of it. Going through the middle of the packed defence is difficult. You see this every match.

When it takes one hour for either side to get a shot on goal - it's not a thrilling spectacle.

Southgate is now virtually admitting that Kane wasn't fully fit. So why was he starting matches then? Did he actually touch the ball in the final?

Neville and Keane, when commenting on the matches, were saying this all along, and those of us watching could see it; plain as day.

I wonder what Bayern Munich will be thinking and asking of the FA especially if he is not fit for the start of the season.
