And I've just told my ex-work colleague, who is being deluged by LibDem leaflets in his nearby South West constituency, that I've seen a projection - specifically for his seat - that it is forecast ro become a LibDem Gain with a majority of 414!

He has some thinking to do!

Especially if it is a Tory or Reform canvasser on my doorstep. I have loads of opinions for them.

Well, now that Reform have pulled ahead of the Tories and into second place Nigel claims that he should be in all the leaders' debates on TV.

To be fair he does have a point. Reform are on 19% with the Tories on 18%, that's a lot of votes if it translates to the GE. OK, Reform will be lucky to get only a few seats in the HoC but the damage to the Tories would be immense.

I wonder if he will join the LibDems and Greens in calling for PR?

I think there are a lot of people now wondering about PR and whether it would work. Why is it that we have the choice of either or. If people take the trouble to vote they want their vote to be representative and not discounted in favour of the winning candidate.

Unfortunately we have never had an open vote on PR, something along the lines of:
"Should the UK use PR in General Elections Yes / No?"

If "No" then that's it.

If "Yes" then a follow up would list different types of PR with explanations of how each works.

In 2011 we did have a vote on the AV (Alternative Vote) system but AV is not PR it just muddies the FPTP voting system.

Reform's recent surge does beg the question.

If (and it is still a big if) Reform come second in the number of votes cast, but gain no MPs - what then?

To me some form of PR would have to be introduced.

We could certainly use PR, it's a much fairer system.
