Typical my luck - a question re steam mops

I gave away my steam mop a few months back - turns out bad mistake. The joys of having a multi pet household, combined with a very wet and not really cold winter, means I now have unwelcome little itchy critters on the pets and in the house - despite the cats being treated. I've got the sprays and tomorrow will be doing a deep clean, but turns out that my having used a steam mop all these years gone would have kept the critters at bay back then because the steam kills the eggs / larvae...

So now looking to re-invest in a new one; cheap would be good, but suspect that that isn't the best way forward - sigh

So please remind me - what make do you have and what are the pro's and con's?

Ria, I did have a Bissel, but with only the bathroom and kitchen floors to use it on I got rid. I now have a Beldray hand-held. It has loads of tools for windows, upholstery, ovens and hobs, bedding, curtains, even "ironing" clothes. About £30 just about anywhere. A full tank, 25cl, lasts about 15 - 20 mins. It should easily do kitty beds, and a sofa and chair for their human servants.

The Vax, your freebie mentioned in another thread some time back, does all the rest.

Ours is a Vax, Ria, but to be honest it's now out in the garage as I usually use a Flash mop. D has a Karcher with loads of attachments for windows, tiles etc.

thanks both - I ended up buying a new Vax Steam mop and dare I say I'm actually quite excited.

Frank - the carpet vax I have isn't a steam cleaner, it's just a regular carpet wash shampoo machine and the water doesn't get hot enough to kill any lingering larvae / eggs etc (which is why it's OK for me to use on my oriental rug ). I need something that creates steam and can be used close up to skirting boards so the steam can get under them and do it's job.

For day to day cleaning, similar to Kaz, I use a regular mop that I use just damp with no detergent. Because the cats and their incredible sensitivity to most chemicals within cleaning products I can't use any spray and simply wipe stuff, everything has to be rinsed off the floor and my entire flat (albeit not very big) is laminate so said mop is for small areas only. Besides which these type of mops don't produce any / enough heat to kill.

First 2 hour load of 60 degrees is now in the machine, there will probably be another two at least - sigh; just not going to be very eco-friendly today am I

I’ve got a Shark one which has a detachable hand held steamer, it’s excellent. had it two years now.
I had a Karcher before that and it was good but I found that it didn’t steam as well as time went on and it was more like wet mopping.

I have got one of the Shark mops. I like the way the pads stick on and can be washed. I have bought a spare set.
I had an H2O Steam Mop. But the pads kept coming off as they were only held in place by velcro.

I still have the H2O. It is at the back of the cupboard.

Ria, I have just started using an amazing cleaning spray called Miniml - it's vinegar and lemon. Not tried it on floors yet, but it's doing a great job on worktops, sinks, cupboard doors, windows.......amazing stuff!
