Eurovision in crisis?

Postby Workingman » 11 May 2024, 15:18

Dutch act axed. Irish act misses flag ceremony, French act stops rehearsal to make a political speech. Israel? Australia? Riots outside the venue.

Oh please, let this be the end of it!

Put it on CBeebies or Dave.

Why shut up, it is in crisis?

It has never been about music, it was always political; Balkans voting for Balkans. Scandinavians voting for Scandinavians. Slave for Slavs, and this year shows it even more. And for the last 20 years or more all voting ABUK.

It was carp when Cliff Pilchard, Sandy Snore. Loo Loo, Motherhood of Bran, Bucks Fizz (can't do much with their name ;) ) and, OMG, null-points, Jemini were about, and it has not improved.

This year we have Olly the Wally.

Oh, I like Olly, he was brilliant in It's A Sin

With everything that's going on between Israel and Palestine at the moment, an Israeli entry was always going to be a very hot potato.

It is a shame for the entrants, who just want to perform........

Riot incoming, just for Saundra.

What really annoys me is that the other channels don't even pretend to challenge it. They buy into the BBC hype that we all love it and give us 2nd rate films, or worse. So, we have to head off to Freeview repeats or pay a fortune for Netfilx / Prime to be entertained.

So NO, I will not "shut up".

I had to watch it, you know I did, mum and dad said so. But it was the most dire musical experience I have ever endured - total dross.

Now it's all Indie, Hip-Hop, fake R&B, Rave and Rap. Presentation, dancing(?) and costumes over music.

Strange how so many of these nations sing in English, and so is the show, but we get few points. I actually like it when countries sing in their native languages - well done Armenia, Slovenia and Ukraine.

UK, didn't Olly the Wally, hyped up to the max, do well - 18th? At least the UK didn't come last, but it was close. Thank you Estonia.

Olly was dreadful, completely off key and totally sleazy

You miss the point Frank, it's the political hilarious voting that makes us love it. Forget the singing, thats irrelevant

Kaz the Uk gave Israel 12 points and the public vote got them in first place for a while

In contrast Olly got 0 from the public vote, worst of the night
