Ah, the non-budget budget.

Basically, nothing given and nothing taken away. Apart from the 2p NI cut we all knew about everything was pushed back. And let's be honest, 2p on 10% of earnings over the £12,500 tax threshold is hardly going to make anyone rich.

At least he didn't go for the 'scorched earth' policy to make life impossible for Labour, as many had expected.

An honourable Conservative, now that would be a first. The Cons have given up.

But, but, but...we've got the triple lock and we are rich! Pensions a plenty, bus passes, prescriptions.

Never mind that we paid in for 40 odd years and our emoluments were not invested properly by governments of all colours; they just went in the pot so we are now a burden.

We are not on benefits; we are being paid back...less than we paid in if they had been invested in the same way as commercial pensions are.

They are keeping the triple lock so apparently the pensioners will be well looked after. Is that right! Lets not forget that we have a two tier pension scheme so those who have retired prior to 2016 will not get the full amount - and that means most of us. And taking that a stage further, many pensioners who have retired before 2016 have not qualified for the full basic pension, so they will get even less. Next, lets take the pensioners who have continued to work to make theilr pensions go a little further. They will find that their pensions, which they are told is tax free, will be lumped in with their earnings which means that these pensioners will pay tax virtually as soon as they start to earn. I don't mind paying my contribution, but I wish the main stream media would stop spouting that pensioners will be receiving a rise of 8.5% thanks to the triple lock when clearly only a few pensioners will get the full amount.

Meds, the OAP that you paid in for 40 plus years or more is not a benefit - and it is just short of the tax threshold. If you paid in to a private pension, as you were advised to all those years ago, the government, of any colour, will now take 20% of it back in tax. They win, you lose.

And at our ages we cannot earn any more. We are stuffed.
