That’s awful!

Not anywhere near as serious but the local bus company decided to do away with timetables on the stops, saying that they’re all accessible online. There were lots of complaints because so many elderly who might not have a smart phone use the buses plus in our village the mobile signal strength is so poor that you can’t always get online. They reversed the decision.

Ah but....

Leeds NHS Teaching Hospitals Trust decided (no consultation) on a "scheme"...

If you make an appointment to see a GP you get a text with a link. I only have a calls and text SIM - no data so when I click the link I get nothing. Go to login at the surgery and it will not let me so I have to get the receptionist to log me in.

"Did you not get the text?"
"Yes."
"You need to click the link."
"I did but I don't have the internet or data on my plan."
"Ah."

I then got in touch with Leeds NHS PALS system and explained and after a while it was sorted. I now get an appointment text with a confirm button and instead of going to the Internet is sends a SMS text over the phone system.

It was so easy but unfortunately the script kiddies in IT think we are all like them and connected 24/7 - their thinking is 'I do it this way so EVERYBODY else must do it this way'.

I am just picking this over and wondering....

OK, so the surgeries want to get rid of phone appointments (staff), for why, who knows?

However, they could go to text appointments seeing as how even old brick phones can make texts.

You text for an appointment. The system finds a date and time and sends a text back. You accept or decline - by text. It can be done using only the phone system. It is estimated that 98% of us have a mobile phone of some sort, so very few people would be excluded, if any.

Email also works.

With our surgery you have to do an e consult and wait 48 hrs for a call back from a clinician, although recently I was offered by text a choice of 10 minute slots for 2 weeks to have a face to face with a Dr.

If you ask me, it's about time GP surgeries "got over themselves" and returned to a system approximating what we had before Covid :o Our surgery always looks deserted when you finally get inside it :?
