Thanks Saundra, I am only going for 2 days to stay with my cousin. Going by train, with 2 changes going and 3 coming back, I shall be on and off like a whores drawers

I am not a fan of the lake district have to say, my theory being, seen one hill you've seen them all  I am sure the lakes are nice but I never see one apart from Windermere

 You haven't walked the fells, m'dear!! ;) Not one lake is the same as another, nor mountain/fell....Windermere is my least favourite anyway as it's so commercialised, the best ones are the quieter, peaceful ones, hence why we usually head for Grasmere :) The Lakes have a fascination, the water, surrounded by mountains, is just beautiful, no mater what the weather, IMO :D

Weka, it was an experience  But y'know, the food was there, the flask was full of hot coffee....it would have been criminal NOT to :D ;)

WM - not at the same time LOL!! I wore a beanie hat and had my jacket hood up for the gales! And all that climbing makes you hot so you just have to wear the bare minimum ;)

I have Gal I have walked lots of fells, lots and lots with her dogs it is all we do. I don't like Windermere either, but it is her nearest lake so where we go, plus it has shops and she likes shopping, even though I hate it. I am bag holder whilst she tries on.

Years ago we went to Derwentwater, that was nice. But we stayed in Keswick, all I remember is the dark stone the houses are built in.

There is a great bus service, I think it is the 555, which runs between Windermere and Keswick, passing through Grasmere, all the time. It's open top too, so on dry days the views from the upper deck would be smashing - I would hate having to shop on holiday there! Not surprised you don't like it much :|

That sounds a lovely bus ride Gal and something me and Tim would love to do. The thought of my cousin on a bus, with tourists (  ) is unthinkable

That's my theory too

When I was a Girl Guide (stop laughing - I was a patrol leader I'll have you know!) we used to go up to Keswick every year and walk around Derwentwater, all I remember is a lot of sheep and a lot of moaning
