Going to see this

Bad Manners the Ska group fronted by Buster Bloodvessel, with my Pilates friends and our other halves  However I probably shouldn’t have opened the video my friend sent me of when she saw them, as I was in a crowded train carriage at the time!

Oh, yes! The Ska revival - two tone. Madness, Bad Manners. Specials, Selecter, Skagina, the Beat - I want a time machine to back in time to when music was music. :D :D :D

Oh brilliant! Special Brew is on a playlist I’d made which I listened to yesterday.

Frank, can I hitch a lift in your time machine?

There’s a drama being show on BBC soon which is set in that era, it’s been filmed around Wolverhampton and Birmingham.
Two Tone (working title) will tell the story of an extended family and four young people who are drawn into the world of ska and two tone music, which grew from the grass roots of the English cities Coventry and Birmingham in the late 1970s and early 1980s.

Of course, Jo, but bring your own refreshments. Nobody ever gets anywhere near my egg mayo and cress sarnies. If I take them on the train nearby seats empty very quickly when I open them. ;)

And thanks, Jo, for the programme 'heads up'. I will certainly watch, if only for the soundtrack.

Those of us who were Mods were brought up on the original Blue Beat, Rock Steady, Ska and Reggae styles. They died, as all genres do, to be replaced by the nonsense that was Disco. Then came the revival and Godsend in the late 70's. I am one of those who will never grow up or grow out of it - 'tis in me blud. :D

It all started with Jamaicans listening in on the radio to Jazz Blues and R&B from New Orleans as well as Calypso from South America (esp Trinidad and Tobago). The jazz was stripped out and calypso inserted and the fusion of the two began.

"Reggae" and "Ska" are now used interchangeably for most Jamaican music of that time.

Shell, try these on YouTube, my absolute favourite track:

Then just follow the Northern Soul thing,,, and please do the side options as well... The Go Gos, Lucie Silvas etc.... I spend hours touring this stuff. Modern 'music' leaves me dead.
