The trouble with this is that there are so many different dialects in the one county.
A Hull dialect is different to a Dales accent.
A Wakefield accent "sounds like your battery is running down" according to some, and as for a Barnsley accent....
Anyhow, best to just let language develop rather than preserve it in aspic, I think.

The Wail makes the same mistake that many do of confusing dialect with accent.

There is no one Yorkshire dialect nor one Yorkshire accent - there are many.

People from Barnsley use different words (dialect) and have a different accent from those in Richmond, yet both are in Yorkshire.

There was a story some years ago of a bump on a minor level crossing - no barriers. When interviewed the woman in the car said "The sign said wait while the lights are on red, so I did."

"While" in some places means "until" in parts of Yorkshire, as in a mum scolding her kids: "Wait while I get thee 'ome."

And it's "get thi' sen up t' Keighley. Only a doylum would say "thee".

Here's a good list and many of them are still used daily; even in polite circles. Some have even migrated south.
