Evening all

Postby Lozzles » 02 May 2013, 19:13

Hope everyone has had a good day :D It's been lovely here all day so I've been in the garden most of the time. I did take Jasper for a nice long walk this morning across the fields above our village. Lovely views all around and not a person in sight :D

I live in the village in the distance...I'm very lucky. I didn't take this picture, but found it online ;)

That looks like Telly Tubby Land, you can imagine them popping up over the hills, eh oh

It does look gorgeous Loz, you are lucky. Wonder if I can find a nice photo of my town :?

This the market square. We have some lovely old buildings around it provided you look up. We have miles and miles of urban sprawl though. The building on the left with the chimney is Carlsberg. I am not sure what the white building is, quite possibly apartments, but that appears to have gone up without me noticing but to the right of it you can just see the gas works.

There is not a lot in Northampton to be proud of, but we are proud of our town hall

and this was voted the second ugliest building in the country, it is our bus station, shortly to be demolised

I think all towns have a mix of good and bad don't they? Your town hall is lovely shell and your market square actually looks like ours in Salisbury :D

Loz I thought that when I saw the picture, it does look rather like Salisburys doesn't it :)
It was a beautiful day for a walk, Minnie and I walked all the way down the lane to the marshes :)
I shall look for a picture...

Oh yes Mm, the winner was the IMax in Bournemouth wasn't it, they've just recently finished demolishing it :)

Edited to add - there are lots of pictures but not quite of the bits we walked ;)

Loz, what a beautiful place to live!

I can only think of three nice buildings in the local town centre - the church, the mansion house which forms part of the college and Wetherspoons which is in an old building dating from the 1500s which used to be an ironmongers. The rest is made up of 60s and 70s architectural monstrosities :?

St Lukes, this is right in the town centre

Wetherspoons

The White House, formerly the council offices and registry office and now part of the local college
Image

The multi-storey car park would give Shell's bus station a run for it's money

We used to live just a short walk away from all of these but moved about 2 miles out of the town centre to a former mining village. It's much more rural here, which is a massive change for someone who has always lived so close to a town centre but I love that I can walk out of my door and a minute later be walking on the common with Billy.
I took this on the common last Summer, looking towards the Welsh border - look that way and you see all of that countryside, turn 180 degrees and the view from the other side is straight over to Walsall and into Birmingham city centre, we're right on the very edge of that conurbation.

Here is our main street - we live right up in the hills above.

And looking the other way, down the valley

This is S's mode of transport home from school at the moment!!

This is what our house backs onto (the moor)

Jo, we have a multi storey car park too, just as ugly as yours.

This is it to the left of our beautiful bus station

Image

Northampton was regenerated in the 70's They knocked down our beautiful Emporium Arcarde

Image

and gave us this

Image

this beautiful old convent, which was a school

Image

and gave us this

Image

this theatre (although that was in the 60's)

Image

and that they swapped for this (previously Fine Fare)

Image

I think you could say we were well and truly shafted by the town planners in the 60's and 70's

Debih, your town is just beautiful as are your views Jo
