I said this would happen with CGI and AI.

When I looked at the games my son bought in the nougties some of the action, vehicles and characters were almost lifelike. My thoughts then were that one day the entertainment industry would be able to do away with set designers, musicians and actors etc.- everything would be computer generated. There would be no need for hectares of studios when a blockbusters could be produced on a floor of an office block.

That time looks to be nearer than I thought.

A production just released used AI to create the images and sound for the trailer for Secret Invasion. Cue outrage from digital artists, songwriters and actors. See the trailer here: https://twitter.com/i/status/1671573048951189504 .The next big step will be full-length movies without any script writers, artists, musicians and actors. Films like Avatar have come close, and there are already downloadable music tracks created using AI.

Oscars 2026: And today's winner for best actor goes to.... ZXK-E18b.

Just think of a world without red carpets, slebs, "ceremonies" and other fluff.

Humanity might actually be advancing. ;)

I nearly fell off my chair. But I do agree. We have reached the stage where Human performances need to really differentiate themselves from the digital.

In many ways they did this to themselves. They wanted more and better effects and drove the technology to give them these effects. The visibility of CGI always rotated around the sheer amount of hours a human would have to put into the images to make them perfect.

Now with AI, the AI can put in thousands of hours of Human input in seconds. Meaning that full feature CGI can be photo realistic and indistinguishable from the real thing.

Now comes the fun part. The consumers don't really care that much so long as the content is of high quality. In fact if they get 10x the choice of really good quality movies with really good quality scripts churned out on a weekly basis, are they going to complain? The actors will never age, never get tired, never have an off day. Scripts can be AI generated but human enhanced to give originality which feeds back into the AI loop.

One step closer to the Matrix.... And we will allow it to happen to ourselves. All for a bit more "entertainment".

That was precisely my point.

If you look at the original Avatar, it is very hard to tell where the CGI stops and filming begins, and then back again; and it is over 15 years old in the making - same with the deep fakes being made by kids in bedrooms today.

We know it is a fantasy and our brains can work it out, but to our eyes it is seamless. Now take a more 'real life' film, say The Godfather, and do a modern day Part IV using purely AI generated actors, sets and soundtrack and we would not have a clue - it would all seem "real".

That is where the industry is heading. A new blockbuster every Tuesday and Thursday with no sets to build, no film crew, no actors....

And the loop of instant gratification will be complete.

When the Lord of the Rings came out I ignored it for years. First movie, second movie. I did not watch the first movie until the last one had a screen date. I'm not enamoured of waiting years to watch a series.

Then I imagine the M. D. Cooper Aeon 14 books suddenly coming out as movies. The market would be flooded in weeks, human actors would have to be exceptional to compete.

I don't know about brave new world. More like Mad new world.

I recognised the potential of mixed reality years ago. Plain apartment but your mixed reality has art, TV broadcasting on the wall, texture, everything. AI will play a large part in this.

I would say newsreaders are fair game. Lots of media areas where AI will take over. Apparently Bild is betting heavily on AI for news production. Shedding staff too.

I too, was also thinking about the more nefarious things it could be used for. News is one.

Take the news about the Crimea bridge the other day.

Russian Telegram channel claimed that it was a hit by a British Storm Shadow missile. I can assure you it was not.

Storm Shadow is a twin warhead bunker buster. The first warhead penetrates and creates a tunnel metres deep, the second much large warhead does the damage from inside the tunnel or bunker. It would be a waste of munitions to use a SS to hit that bridge. The first warhead would do all the damage and the second would go through the hole and into the water. That's why the military and media ignored the claim.

But imagine an AI generated Russian newsreader claiming that the AI generated damage of a bridge collapse behind him was real.... It becomes a propaganda scoop, especially for home consumption, and also the excuse for a possible actual retaliation.

I wasn't so much thinking nefarious but that too. I was just thinking normal day to day stuff. When your AI can write the news script and also produce a character and voice to deliver it, who needs humans apart from to take the video??

Even taking the video eventually.

Then consider that bots like the Tesla bot are going to be priced at around 30k. How do humans compete with a one time purchase and charging every 5/6 hours as a cost model? Even oif they only last 5 years it will be an incredible saving.

The funny thing is we have already seen this in areas but everyone likes to forget it.

Large companies got rid of entire bookkeeping and accounting departments when Spreadsheets and then financial accounting software came along. Shops withe electronic tills, barcode scanning for every item.

AI is nothing more than the logical extension of this and bipedal bots also.

The fact that it can also rapidly disseminate false information?? Simply a speeding up of what is already possible by humans with computers.

Brave new world eh!
