As a mere male i am probably doing everything wrong with washing.

I wait till the washing basket is full. Everthing is put in, sheets changed about every two weeks, underwerar, hankies shirts socks and trousers.
They all go together in the washingmachine. I use an Easycare wash. Takes about 90 minutes.

Then put them over a maiden in the kitchen to dry overnight. Then start ironing and leave them to air on a maiden i one of the bedrooms. It works for me.

There’s nothing really that wrong with your method, Cruiser. All I would suggest is adding a Colour Catcher sheet, as it catches any dye runs so your clothes last longer

Cruiser I certainly wouldn't use a 90 minutes wash
Try a smaller amount of stuff to wash of same group lights or dark and use a quick wash cycle
Just use a hot wash for towels bedding
