The Hoover is currently sat about 24 feet away from where i am on the laptop. It is doing three heavy jumpers to go in the winter wear drawer once they are washed and dried. With the kichen door closed I cannot hear a thing.... even on spin.

With the Candy I could hear every change in cycle, and on spin it was like sitting next to a jet taking off! I certainly could not use it in the evenings or later.

The counterweights used to balance the drum are much more adaptable than those of even four or five years ago, hence the quietness.

Speaking from my own experience - we can only speak as we find - that was my issue with the LG :?

I had a Hoover many years ago, that was a good machine :)

I select mix, select my temperature, select the spin speed, press for rinse hold and delay for 7 hours and press start

Which one is mine

We have two Samsung now as Mrs S wanted a new one when we redid the utility room. The old Samsung had an issue about 2 years in. The main drain flexi hose wore through and leaked. I bought 2 new one's and when I fitted the new one I spent quite a lot of time making sure that it would not chafe on anything including itself. 5 years on and no problems with it. I have no idea where the spare hose is.

The old Samsung had a lot of play in the door catch and it would make a lot of noise when it span. The new one is almost silent and has a totally different catch (clearly a design issue).

Personally I would have taken a direct drive. They are virtually silent and no matter how good a belt driven system is the belt makes some noise. However Mrs S wanted the Samsung and she's very happy with it. The old one is out in the garage for washing working clothes and dog stuff.

Shell, pre-set is usually a dial you set to a particular wash and temperature - cottons, mixed, delicates etc. Behind it is a set of cams and micro-switches turned on by the timer. Once you hit "Go" then off it goes. There might be other buttons to delay the start or alter the spin speed. but little else. They are basically electro mechanical in nature.

Computer controlled is usually a digital interface / screen and what you input is then controlled by software and microchips - an electronic device.

Think of the difference between microwave ovens with dials for time and low / med / high heat settings v one with a control panel and all the functions under the sun to choose from.

Your washer looks to be a hybrid of the two. The dial sets the defaults but you can alter some of them with the screen. My old pre-set Candy had buttons for delay and to alter the spin speed on some washes.

I'm not really any the wiser  but mine does what I want it to, and I choose, it doesn't tell me. I needed a delay and I needed a rinse hold, I also like a small load button and I wanted silent, so it ticks all my boxes.

If these are your boxes too Ria, its a good choice

Mrs S wanted an express wash and it was on her list. Quick 15 minute wash for things that just need a light wash. Before she had to put stuff on for 2.5 hours no matter if soiled or not.
