So the government sends and emergency warning about a storm coming.

I go and research the weather and probable impact on me by this storm.

I will then either heed or ignore the message. I will not blindly follow something dumped on my phone by the government.

Common fallacy with the sea level rise.

A 1ft rise in general sea levels can cause a 10ft additional storm surge in the right storm conditions.

Meaning that knowing about an oncoming storm which might produce these conditions is important.

When New Orleans was hit it was not the strength of the winds that crushed the levees, it was the huge storm surge.
