Vodafone broadband - bl**dy 'ell.

Postby Workingman » 08 Mar 2023, 15:34

My old contract ran out at the end of January and the new offer, to start from 20 Feb 2023, was as good as anyone else was offering - 24 months at £25 pcm, 65Mbps unlimited, plus free landline calls at evenings and weekends. It rolled over without a hitch.

Today I received an email for my new bill. My charges, one month into a 24 month contract, will rise by 10.5% (CPI) plus 3.9% standing charge from April. The email states that these new amounts were as published in January 2023. What these con artists have done is sucked me into a 24 month contract at a fictitious price and locked me in so that the only way out is via a penalty payment.

Had they offered me a contract at the price they knew that they would be charging (£28.60 pcm) I, and many others, would have looked elsewhere. They knew this so they conned us.

I have just spoken to Vodafone, a script reader, and informed them that I require a call-back from someone who can deal effectively with my complaint by 4 pm on Friday. If not I will be reporting them to my MP, Ofcom and the Ombudsman.

To my mind what they are doing is borderline illegal.

Saundra, what has really cheesed me off is that on Moneysavingexpert Vodafone is offering a similar deal, sans calls, but only to new customers, and the £25 is fixed till April 2024... oh, and they get a £145 gift voucher. Ends Sunday.

Interestingly I just received a notification from BT that my phone bill is going up by ~£10.50 from my next bill. OK I have 4 sims on the plan so that's really only about £2.70 a sim. But it is me that pays the whole bill and it is somewhat irritating.

Remember the posting I gave for the cheap basic internet WM? Part of that deal was that you can break an existing contract with no penalty. You could move to the service then "upgrade" I guess if you are really annoyed about it.

This month I'm paying £95 for my Starlink internet. Real lifesaver as I only found out after I got here that their "wifie" is no more than a 20GB a month mobile sim in a router.

My charge has gone down from £99 per month. OK it is still extortionate. But it is going in the opposite direction to the rest of them.

Vic, if you are a low user, as I am, try 1pMobile. https://www.1pmobile.com/1year-SIM.taf It's actually EE.

I did use Smarty, but this suits me.

I have had meaningful discusions with Virgin Medfia. It is a long story. Contract should have finished on 6th December 2022 when I was paying
£33.00 per month for 250 Mps broadband landline and free wekend calls.
Wanted to up monthly payment to £70.00 per month.
Am now getting 250Mps broadband, landline and free weekend calls for £17.00-yes seventeen pounds per month. Have got it in writing and it cannot
be increased.
I know I am on a very good deal.

I've had several "interesting" conversations with Vodafone. One was when I was on a special contract for being abroad before the EU rules came in. The woman in the Kirkcadly shop was adamant my bill would drop with her new tariff. I told her I'd already done the calculations and it would cost me £10 a month more. She got really irritated and said "look I have a comparison program on the screen here". So I gave her my number and it showed my last bill then did the calculation. £10 more. That deflated her very rapidly.

The more recent one was when vodafone called me up and said "I can give you cheaper broadband". I said, "sorry I don't want cheaper broadband". He was stumped for a second then said "but I can save you money". To which I replied "I don't want you to save me money". Talk about totally unable to believe what he was hearing... I found it most amusing.

When they did the fibre to my daughters house TalkTalk were offering a "wonderful" broadband service. It was going to be so much cheaper. One slight issue. It was Broadband. Yep, ONLY broadband. Now if you went online and researched it you found out that phone was "add on". Phone with usable amounts of call time was "add on" and phone with any form of international calls was "add on". When I added on and on and on, it came to £10 a month more than the faster BT service. I showed here the numbers. She declined to take the "wonderful offer" up...

You have to read EVERYTHING.
