Pit bull dog

when we went up to fetch Eliza from school today a dog that had been running around loose attacked another poor dog tied up outside our Sainsbury's local.
They attacking dog was a pit bull type with a huge flat, wide head.
Eventually a mamber of the public got the dog into her car (brave woman).
MrsC says the dog belongs to some one living in bungalows originally built for old people. They now get used for housing all sorts.
It looks like a druggies dog to me, and one walked past me in the car after the dog attack.
I feel for the poor attacked dog and it's owner. Many pounds in vet's bills on the way and small chance of getting any of it back.
The dog must have done it before because we have been told it shouldn't be out without a muzzle.

Oh dear, sounds very dangerous! I expect it will quite rightly get put down, but that doesn't address the vet bills for the injured dog

When my mum was alive and unable to live with either us or on her own, she was in a warden controlled group of flats.

Over the years, the old bods died off and the young mums, druggies too over it was just awful.

But my mum, being my mum, made friends with a lot of them, got piddled with them, tried their drugs :shock and when she died, they were just so lovely about it all.

I hated going to see her though, felt so watched, cornered, just about to be mugged. They had the most evil dogs - this was in 1990's, when the pitbulls were all the rage.

A couple of houses in the village have recently been done up and this dog's owners are in one of them. So they are new to the village. They leave the dog out all evening and it just barks and throws itself at the fence, trying to get out.
The dog that it attacked is in emergency surgery.

There are a lot of evil b'stard dogs out there. However I have learned that most of them recognise when you are openly willing to match violence with violence. Only a few are totally lost to reason.

Next door have a new raffeiro, which they left, on it's own, all summer. We could hear it wimpering most day and nights. Broke my heart. It's now about 8 months old and he ties it to a tree - on a short lead - to keep guard of his sheep.

For some reason, he's put a bell on the dog and we hear it near our fence.

This morning, he heard me, peered under the fence at me, I stared at it and went

WOOOOOOOOO

Poor thing jumped backwards, quite shocked Don't think he'll do that again.

We had years of next doors two dogs, trying to get under or over the fence at us, so thought I'd stop it, before it got silly again.

Crommers, hopefully the woman that managed to get the dog into the car took it to a vet / police or handed it over to someone like a dog warden? Yes unfortunately it most likely will be put down; but if it's attacking other dogs it won't be long before it attacks a person. Poor dog, never had a chance did it - the "owners" failed it badly And if they know who the owner is then they should be sued via the small claims court. May not get much but at least there'd be a case against them. I honestly think it should be compulsory for every pet owner to have some form of pet (or other) insurance that has public liability cover that covers damage caused by their pet.

OK, so the sheep get attacked and the dog is supposed to do what if it can't get to the attacker (be it person or animal)? Daft man

seriously Jan, that just breaks my heart; is there no one one can report animal abuse to - I know animal welfare in Portugal isn't top priority but still.... does the poor creature at least get fresh water every day / few hours in the summer and have access to shade and food etc?

No idea Ria, can't see where he normally keeps it.

We have reported him, as have several other people and SEPNA have been out as well as the GNR.

But they lie. Convincingly and so get away with it.

But the GNR have told us that the area which he keeps his two dogs is adequate. Although he told them that he takes them for walks, when he doesn't One is too dangerous and the other one he will let out sometimes.

I feel sorry for all of his animals, some people just shouldn’t have them as they regard them as “things”

I was chatting to some-one, no idea who she was, at the coffee morning and she was telling me how much he loves his animals.

So much, I said, that he picks up the goats by their horns?????

He has no idea whatsoever about animals and how to look after them. The donkeys stink, he refuses to geld any of the animals, so the goats and sheep are very interbred and obviously, you get throwbacks.

Unless we or anyone else, has documented proof, there is nothing the authorities can do.

The local farrier still goes there, as he said that the animals suffer enough, without him not going. His wife refused to go there or indeed, speak to either of them now. And they were such good friends, as long time ago, giving them goats and sheep, to start them off.
