We bought a load of plastic-coated clothes racks (around 10 of them) that simply hook onto the top of our central heating radiators in each room and allow us to drape things to be dried down the side of them ..... works well when we have the C/H on during the winter.

We have a sheila maid in the utility room and I put in a larger radiator than it would normally need to dry clothes. When we need more we put a portably drying screen in the downstairs hall in front of the Massive 4kw cast iron radiator. We decided, long ago, that we would not use a tumble dryer.

I live in a thre bedroom house. Had the loft insulated many years ago.

Since having a new combi boiler fitted the gas bill is very low. Electricity is much the same. I dry washing on a maiden overnight so do not use
the tumble dryer.

I am in credit with my energy supplier at the moment. I refuse to have my DD increased. I will wait until next year and see how y charges have increased.
If I am in debt I will wait and see what the supplier says.

THere will be a lot of people worse off than me.

We’re currently paying £160 per month, which doubled what we were paying earlier in the year.

We have a smart meter so can gauge usage. I’ve cut down on using the dishwasher, I used to think nothing of running it half full every day but now I wait until it’s full. Our main usage seems to be hot water. We have a hot water tank in the airing cupboard, apparently due to the size of the house a combi boiler wouldn’t have been sufficient for the needs so we have to heat up water to be stored in the tank. It’s swings and roundabouts though as it does make a good place for drying clothes, I’ve put a telescopic shower rail in the airing cupboard and (with the door partially open to prevent damp forming) I hang clothes in there to dry.

I dont have an airing cupboard it was in the bathroom and was taken out to put a shower in.

But I have a cupboard in the spare room which is over the stairs. Tim put a small radiator in it and some racking and that is now my airing cupboard
